The movie then comfortably ventures into the dramatic mode of Kate leaving modeling making herself a poor slum mother to raise the three orphans she has care of more out of a guilty conscience at first but the three increasingly she falls in love with.
Then the story veers into Christian morality tale kids go to Lutheran school and pastor of church becomes substitute father and husband, who becomes romantically involved with kate and we then get a moral episode and focal point of movie as the eldest of the orphans on prom night runs away and has sexual episode which then becomes elongated making it the main point of the movie.
The film develops into morality tale without becoming too preachy and the episode appears as a play within a film. Film is handled skillfully by director Marshall.
I enjoyed film has a difference, a tempo to it, not seen in usual films and is handled originally and creatively. Hudson adds zest to role and film.

The story that follows is Helen's life being turned upside down as she's left to deal with a situation that she has absolutely no experience of and appears to be making an absolute pigs ear of.
The reason I titled this review as 'Rings a bell? Despite this, Raising Helen is an above average romantic comedy but don't expect ANY man to enjoy this as it is a ginormous chick flick.
John Corbett is extremely likeable as the love interest and that's the main thing going for this film. Not just John Corbett but the whole cast of characters is pretty strong.
The stand-out performance is from Joan Cusack who despite being the supporting actress outshines Kate Hudson by a mile. The film is very much worth watching and it is superior to a lot of romantic comedies especially of modern times.
The extras include a Blooper Reel, a music video, deleted scenes and an audio commentary. Skip the audio commentary. It was about as interesting as watching paint dry.
