ENTER THE VOID - TrailerNumber 1 above may sound nausea-inducing to some, but there's usually interesting dialogue to distract you from the disorienting visuals and these scenes only comprise a small percentage of the total screen time.
Technique number 2 could have been Oscar-worthy if it was filmed for a less controversial movie. Floating and spinning above the city of Tokyo and watching various dramas unfold from up above is absolutely incredible.
You'll spend so much time watching from this perspective that it's easy to get lost in the images and forget what an incredible technical achievement you're observing.
Virtually all of the key plot elements occur within the first 90 minutes of the film. After that the film transforms into more of a psychedelic, visual experience while the story fades away.
This phase of the film really tested my patience and I started to check my watch frequently but there were enough eye-popping scenes that I'm sure I'll view this a second time someday.
The momentum returns during the final 10 or 15 minutes, and although this final phase is simply a logical conclusion of what had been blatantly foreshadowed earlier, it's nonetheless amusing and incredible to watch the taboo-breaking finale.
It's too controversial and too bizarre to appeal to most people, but it will undoubtedly find its niche as one of the greatest cult classics of all-time.

But despite its querulous melodrama and crazed Freudian pedantries, it has a human purpose the previous film lacked, and its sheer deranged brilliance is magnificent.
Andrew Male rated the film two out of five in Empire. Male called it "technically stunning", but also "dreadfully acted, tediously 'profound' and painfully overlong", and accused the director of misogyny.
She thought that the characters lacked emotional depth and called the story "a lame fusion of stoner lifestyle, sexual fetish, and philosophical inquiry", but still ended the review: "I could stare at this movie for days and not get tired of the sensation.
A mash-up of the sacred, the profane, and the brain-dead, Enter the Void is addictive. And no, the fact that it's intentionally excruciating doesn't make it less excruciating.

The story is pretty sad and tragic to be honest. It's a good movie but still not as spectacular as Noe's other movie, Irreversible.
Cita W Super Reviewer. Feb 04, No matter how you cut it, "Enter the Void" is one crazy and downright morbid mind-bending experience that is quite a strain on anyone who views the film.
This is not for the faint of the heart by any means, and I mean you better know what you are getting yourself into.
Nobody I can think of besides myself and my best friend Brad could endure such a film, let alone garner an artistic and deeper look into the human condition and more so in death.
The film is rated NC as it contains extremely graphic and mature material including nudity, sexual content, language and some very disturbing visuals.
Also of note, the film is not recommended for anyone with epilepsy or sensitivity to extreme flashing lights as the film can induce seizures. Overall, my experience "into the void" if you will, was quite an extraordinary one as the film demonstrated very original and extreme use of camera angels and artistic use of special effects.
By no means is this an easy film or even enjoyable story but a very complex and original one that really draws the viewers into the seedy underworld of Tokyo and the terror behind every wall.
The film uses a point of view camera perspective as Brad pointed out the first we noticed with an effect for blinking and the only time we see the main character is when he looks in a mirror or he is looking down on his body after he has died.
The film is remarkable in it's perspective of Tokyo from the view of the recently deceased as he floats around seeing the destruction and sadness he has caused and the suffering of his sister.
While one of the toughest films to view along with works such as "Salo or The Days of Sodom" and "In the Realm of the Senses", "Enter the Void" is one worth watching for all it's creativity and complex story for those brave enough to endure it.

And what of afterlife, is there more than a void? Thomas Sotinel of Le Monde started his review by recalling the irritation the film caused upon its world premiere in Cannes, and compared the cut he had seen there to the final version: "In all honesty, the difference does not jump to my eyes.
Of course, the film seems more consistent, but that may be because we've already traveled this maze once. While leaving, we might remain calmer, but still amazed by the mixture of exuberant invention and puerility.
He applauded how he found the strobe lights hypnotising in a way that influenced the perception of time. Soporific cinema.
