At the onset of a zombie apocalypse, chaos descends as Rose loses her family, Ryan tries to get his bearings, and a desperate man finds a new guise.

William, Sun and Barbara try to drive to the stadium, but it's tougher than they thought: They're blocked by both living marauders and roving undead.

Rose, Spears, Ryan and Lance find a refuge. Learning they're not alone, they're schooled on the dangers of following the heart rather than the head.

Forced to fend for themselves, the survivors that were left behind must improvise and look out for both the dead and the living. Trapped in an abandoned diner, William and Sun must decide whether they can depend on the survivors from the truck as their alliance is tested.

The desperate yet determined group undertakes a daring hit on a weapons stash, but the pandemonium threatens to swallow them up. Soldiers arrive with both plans and promises.

But questions remain as a survivor makes a bold move. Who can you trust? Where do your loyalties lie? As the group approaches the stadium, everything goes sideways.

The survivors blast through their bullets -- and their options. A bleak, dull affair that mistakes camera movement for narrative energy and has about as much life as the walking dead.

Yet if the zombies are defined by frantic agitation, the show itself stands out from the pack thanks to a pensive, almost dreamlike economy.

It is a relatively minimalist series, which favours tension and suspense over character development or even dialogue. There were several moments in Black Summer where I was cuddled up under my blanket, a little bit terrified.

For me, this makes it a must watch. Although far from being the best of the genre, Black Summer is the zombie apocalypse series I've most enjoyed since the first season of The Walking Dead.

An entertaining, exciting and tense, introduction to what I hope will become a brilliant zombie series. If you're a fan of the zombie subgenre, Black Summer should be right in your wheelhouse.

It's a bleak, fast-paced action drama heavy on the action and light on the personal drama. The stiff acting in Black Summer is also a broad issue throughout the series, accentuated by the bad scripting and ineffective plotting.

Written by ahmetkozan. I was quite impressed with this show. It's centered around the early days of a zombie apocalypse, and those who have to live through it.

It adopts an almost documentary style that I found to be particularly effective. I really enjoy the fact that the characters are always on the run and that no place is safe.

The zombie menace is omnipresent and the zombies are actually, you know, deadly and aggressive. Even a lone zombie can be a real handful.

It almost feels like a war movie. The characters are clearly shell shocked as the world they used to know collapses around them.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I enjoy the fact that the dialog is minimal, as it better represents the horror these people are living through.

I sincerely hope this continues. I have no way of knowing, but appears there's some review "brigading" going on.
