Most mediocre MCU films get a better rating than that. This movie is up there with The Dark Knight as one of the best superhero movies.

This movie was loved when it came out, now it's cool to hate on the trilogy. Spider-Man 2 improved on all aspects of Spider-Man 1.

Peter is struggling to be Spider-Man, and the movie illustrates that very well. The action is better than lots of movies today, most notably the train fight scene.

Danny Elfman provides an unforgettable soundtrack. This movie and the trilogy shouldn't be overlooked as some cheesy s movies, because they paved the way for the MCU as we know it today.

User Ratings. During the battle, Octavius manages to destroy the brakes to the train, forcing Spider-Man to rescue the runaway train.

Spider-Man manages to stop the train before it can plunge over the end of the track, but at great physical exertion.

He nearly falls, but the people in the train catch him and see him without his mask on. They agree to keep his identity a secret and try to protect him from Doc Ock, but his mechanical arms are too much for them.

Weak from his exertions Spider-Man becomes dizzy and faints and he is captured by Doctor Octopus and delivered to Harry Osborn.

Harry unmasks Spider-Man and is shocked to discover that his sworn enemy is his best friend. Spider-Man awakens and convinces Harry to reveal Octavius' whereabouts so he can rescue Mary Jane, learning that Octavius is rebuilding his machine and threatening the world.

Spider-Man finds Doctor Octavius in an abandoned warehouse on a waterfront pier, where he's restarted his fusion experiment.

After battling with Doc Ock, Spider-Man manages to stun the villain with an electric shock. Peter then reveals his true identity to Octavius and pleads with him to stop the machine.

Returned to his senses by the shock and determined to end his doomsday experiment before it causes more harm, Octavius uses his mechanical arms to collapse the floor of the building, successfully drowning the device at the cost of his own life, his last words being, "I will not die a monster.

Mary Jane, who finally understands Peter's inability to be there for her, despairs this truth, and looks on as Spider-Man swings away. Across town, Harry has visions of his father, the late Norman Osborn, in a hanging mirror.

The illusion demands that his son kill Peter Parker to avenge his death. Harry refuses and hurls a dagger at the mirror, shattering it and revealing a secret room, containing the Green Goblin's war gear.

Mary Jane leaves her wedding and finds Peter in his apartment, telling him that she has decided to be with him — despite the risks.

They exchange an ardent kiss, but it is quickly interrupted by the sound of police sirens. She looks on with worry as Spider-Man pursues the cop cars, and the film ends.

Reaction to the film was extremely positive among critics. Metacritic gave the film an average score of 83 out of , which signifies "universal acclaim".

Many critics enjoyed Alfred Molina's performance as the main antagonist, Doc Ock. Film critic Roger Ebert gave the film a perfect 4 out of 4 stars, also calling it the best superhero movie since 's Superman.

In fact, the only problem with Spider-Man 3 is the editing if they lose 30 minutes of fluff, goofy humor and strange, depressing scenes with Mary Jane, this movie is actually fine.

Spidey 2 is a really fun movie with a good plot, same solid supporting cast very colorful and well-cast and good CGI.

Another home run! Mark H Super Reviewer. Jul 11, Similarly as dated as the first Spider-Man film is, Spider-Man 2 isn't the easiest re-watch.

Raimi's direction is tight but it's also not as sharp as you may remember it. But this film stood for something more, which is quite often the fault of most MCU movies in this era.

Thrilling, surprising, and poignant, Spider-Man 2 showed that you don't always have to play it safe with our favorite web-slinger, there's so much more underneath the skin to address.

What I really love about this film is how well it balances out screen time. We get introduced to a few new characters this time around, and of course none more prevalent than Doc Ock, played by Alfred Molina.

Known now as one of the greatest superhero villains of all time, Molina stands out because of the way he's written as well as his charismatically tragic performance.

It's really just your typical scientist gone mad idea, but juxtaposed with Peter's struggling personal life, it plays extremely well.

Which brings me to why this film and really Spider-Man in general have an impact on audiences so heavily, his problems.

Spider-Man is no longer getting bullied in high school, but that didn't remiss him from dealing with deep personal problems as a growing man.

As frustrating as it is to see him try and navigate Mary Jane's mind without telling her how he really feels, it's an issue that Peter has always had.

I've worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon [Watts] is just such an outstanding talent.

For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom [Holland] 's screen tests were special. UPI desk.
