A circular, easy-access walk around Wistlandpound Reservoir, on the edge of Exmoor in Devon. The route takes you on a beautiful waterside journey, through pretty sections of woodland and through open sections with far-reaching views.

And while Tarantino never quite succeeds in putting around each character the sense of isolation that marks the best noirs, he carries off this exercise in lively fashion.

Follow this fenced path and eventually you'll pass another toilet block on the left. Go through the wooden gate to the right of this and then swing immediately left to walk along the right-hand edge of this grass field.
As you climb towards the brow of the slope, you'll have your first views of Farmoor Reservoir across to the right. Owned and administered by Thames Water, Farmoor Reservoir is the largest single area of open water in Oxfordshire.
The reservoir is filled from the River Thames and it supplies water to several places including Swindon. The reservoir was built in two stages, Farmoor I the basin north of the causeway was completed in and Farmoor II the basin south of the causeway was completed in Keep ahead as the path narrows through a small belt of woodland and then continues along the right-hand edge of the next field.
Continue through the remains of a kissing gate to enter the next fenced section. Take the first turning to the left which leads you out to a T-junction with the quiet lane to the south of the reservoir.
Turn right along this quiet lane, taking care of any occasional traffic. Follow the lane downhill and then swinging right.
Just a few yards further along, look out for the sign on the right for the Countryside Walk, which directs you onto a boardwalk.
Follow this boardwalk through the pretty section of mixed woodland comprising oak, ash, poplar and willow. There are a couple of bird feeding tables here and it is a great place to pause and enjoy the woodland birds.
If you're lucky you may see or hear! As you emerge out into the next grass field, keep straight ahead following the line of the fence on the right.
Once again the views across the reservoir to the right will open up, framed behind with the hills to the north.
Farmoor Reservoir is popular as a sailing, fishing and walking venue and is probably Oxfordshire's most-visited birdwatching site. The two large concrete basins divided by a causeway act as a magnet to overflying migrants, and the site has produced an impressive list of rare sightings.
Several types of geese, ducks, gulls, waders and Cormorants are common visitors. Follow this path for some distance and you will emerge via a bridge to a T-junction with a residential lane.
Turn right and then take the wooden gate immediately to the right of the white cottages. Shortly you'll cross another bridge, then simply keep straight ahead on the grass path with a tall hedgerow to the right.
Further along the path swings right and you'll see the River Thames immediately on the left. This section of the River Thames is also known as The Isis.
The name is especially used in connection with rowing at the University of Oxford, with the reserve boat crew taking the name Isis.
A little way along, pass through the metal gate ahead and then turn immediately right leaving the river for moment to go through the wooden kissing gate.
Cross over the tarmac track and keep ahead on the fenced grass path. The path swings left and then widens, simply keep ahead following the right-hand fence.
Down to the left you'll see the course of the River Thames meandering along. Alongside this is Shrike Meadow nature reserve.
Today the site attracts many geese, waders and hobbies a swift falcon-type bird. Continue for some distance and eventually the path narrows again between fences and you're forced to swing left passing the inlet works to the right.
The inlet works act as a pumping station to regulate the feed of water from the River Thames into the reservoir.
The building is a classic example of Britain's impressive industrial heritage with its distinctive bubble glass windows. Follow the path across the tarmac access lane and then swinging right in front of the inlet works.
The path leads you straight over the inlet channel, the point where the water from the River Thames on your left is drawn into the reservoir on your right.
A few paces later you'll come to a fork, keep left here onto the grass path alongside the River Thames signed with a yellow-banded marker post.
Note: if this path is too muddy, you can take the shorter right-hand path as the two paths merge again later.
On the right you will pass the wetlands of Pinkhill nature reserve, a series of shallow pools. Here you're likely to see plenty of dragonflies and damselflies in the summer.
