The casting is superb. All the actors involved did a wonderful job, and they even closely resemble the people they are portraying.
Gylim Lee looks so much like Brian May at that age, I don't think even Brian's own wife could tell the difference. The resemblance, the voice, the mannerisms are right bang on!
In fact, I'm not sure Brian May himself could tell the difference! It's uncanny. The music is wonderful, and it's a heartwarming script on its own merit.
But it's not the true story of either Freddie Mercury or Queen. Very disappointing. Many important aspects of Freddie's personality are not brought out in the movie, such as his HUGE generosity, his fierce loyalty to friends, his impeccable tastes in art, architecture and furnishings, or his love for opera and ballet.
Some very important people in his life have been left out of the story altogether, such as two of his longtime housemates, Peter Freestone, his personal assistant and very dear friend, and Joe Fanelli, his chef and former lover.
Barbara Valentin, a German girlfriend, who was also very important to him, is not mentioned, either.
Freddie's life is only portrayed up until the Live Aid concert in , but all of these aforementioned people were a loving constant in his life by , whereas the movie portrays him as being lost and alone.
The indiscrepancies with the true story are myriad. If you take the movie as a story unto itself, then you'll probably enjoy it and like it.
But if accuracy is important to you, then you'll be disappointed. Actually, the REAL story of Freddie Mercury; especially the years right before he died, with his prolific output of achingly beautiful music, bravery in the face of imminent death, and defying excrutiating pain and exhaustion to finish as many tracks as possible before he was gone; is far more compelling than anything that's been put on the screen so far.
But did I enjoy the movie? Oh yes! I've watched it many, many times - and cried through it each and every time.
They did take some liberties of the real facts, however as piece of entertainment it works well, one big flaw is the reduction of the Live Aid performance in the movie, in the extra section they show the full performance recreated which in my opinion should have been shown in the movie, its that good, if you never saw queen a Freddie Mercury at their peak which luckily I did then this is a close as you will ever get, get the movie watch the full concert, for me it was worth the price of the DVD on its own.
There is so much I could write about this film. I truly adore it, but I will keep this as short as possible. As far as delivery goes, I could not be more impressed.
It arrived the day before the DVD was even set to release so I'm over the moon. As for the film itself, I saw it four times at the cinema and knew I had to get it on BluRay.

I can say we will be watching this movie a lot in the future. It will be one of our favorites in the Blu-Ray collection. They had Rami Malek to play Freddy and in my eyes he was the best for the job.
