The idea that they all loved the same man was baffling. And that he loved them even more so. Seeing him from their different points of view made me despise him.

It mostly felt he was abusing his power, religion, and situation. Uncovering his murderer was a lot of Long, but pretty good! Uncovering his murderer was a lot of work.

Yes, it seemed so obvious to choose Rachel. Getting to know them and their pasts was important. There were so many people to HATE in this book.

Blake, his mother. His mother. Aunt Meg. And there is so much going on I enjoyed the wives trying to uncover the murderer. By the time the story was starting to wrap up, I was ready for it to be over.

As much as I enjoyed it, it had started to drag a bit. So it did feel a little anticlimactic since there were limited possible suspects to begin with.

I did like it though, and would definitely read more from the author. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This has not changed my opinion in any way.

Also it doesn't help that the house is in the middle of nowhere in the desert in Utah. Well, you can certainly expect him to die mysteriously.

And who killed him? Well, that's what this book is for, innit? Rachel, sister-wife one: pious, dutiful, secretive and has a traumatic past.

Emily, sister-wife two: timid, curi What do you expect when a man marries thrice and doesn't get divorced at all.

Emily, sister-wife two: timid, curious with a tendency to lie. Tina, sister-wife three: bold, cynical and a former drug addict among other things from Las Vegas.

This book was a crazy ride. The narration was from the POVs of the wives, each with their unique thought process and style.

But even with multiple POVs it was quite easy to follow. The cult angle was interesting and sad too.

Because so much of it is real. Its a wonder that women survive and thrive in this world despite what they are put through.

All of these wives suffered differently but their pain was the unifier. But despite the harrowing events, the narration was interesting and witty and at times funny.

The book got a bit slow in the middle. And the whole aspect of polygamy was a bit unbelievable. I do not know much about The Latter Day Saints and their old ways but I will be trying to learn more about this branch of Christianity.

Can people do that? Get married to more than one person, in this present century? I loved reading this book and if you are searching for a thriller with different troupes, this book is for you!

I am always a sucker for anything to do with the FLDS. So reading a description that revolved around a murder and the 3 sister wives are the primary suspects was too good to pass up.

Overall this was a compulsive story to read over a weekend. I found the dynamic between the sister wives to be well done. Having one wife who was was raised in the religion and the other two wives to be brought in as outsiders was a good move.

I I received an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I don't think the story would have worked without it. This is winner.

I was very satisfied by the ending and the story arch is tied up very well. My only complaint is that I think the writing was a bit underwhelming.

I think it would have benifitted from more editing. As I read an e-galley I hope that has occurred.

Drie verschillende vrouwen die een ding gemeen hebben: hun echtgenoot is op een gruwelijke wijze vermoord! Blake is dood. Zijn vrouw heeft hem vermoord.

Maar welke? Quinn heeft ervoor gekozen om 'Drie weduwen' te vertellen vanuit het perspectief van de drie weduwen Rachel, Emily en Tina.

Hierdoor krijg je een bijzonder verhaal waar - in een dikke honderd hoofdstukken — de vrouwen elk hun visie vertellen van wat zij denken dat er gebeurd is.

Op die manier krijg je ook een kijkje hoe ze tegenover elkaar staan. Daardoor wordt steeds een nieuw segment toegevoegd en wordt al snel duidelijk dat het niet altijd rozengeur en maneschijn was tussen de echtgenotes onderling.

Op die manier besteedt Quinn aandacht aan elke vrouw afzonderlijk, zowel qua identiteit als haar rol in het huwelijk. De karakters worden doorheen het verhaal verder uitgediept en daardoor leer je hen beter kennen en snapt waarom ze zijn wie ze zijn.

Daarnaast hebben ze alle drie — buiten het huwelijk en de zusterband — hun eigen verleden met de nodige geheimen. Vooral het geheim van Rachel dringt zich naarmate het verhaal vordert meer op de voorgrond, waardoor de moord op Blake naar de achtergrond verdwijnt.

Hoewel 'Drie Weduwen' een boeiend verhaal is, is van een echt spanningslevel nauwelijks te spreken.

Het voelt voor mij eerder als een spannende misdaadroman. Op zich niks mis mee, maar het verwachtingspatroon was een enerverende thriller en dat is het niet.

De vraag wie Blake vermoord heeft was niet langer de hamvraag. Mijn interesse ging eerder uit naar het geheim van Rachel. Dit thrillerdebuut is geschreven met vlotte pen, zeer toegankelijk met hier en daar dat tikkeltje humor.

Quinn bezit de gave om een verhaal te vertellen alsof het alleen voor jou bestemd is. Drie weduwen is bovendien erg menselijk en filmisch neergezet met detail voor sfeerbeelden.

Het zou me niet verwonderen mochten de rechten hiervoor al verkocht zijn. Daarnaast nemen polygamie en de Mormoonse gemeenschap een prominente plaats in het verhaal wat zorgt voor een extra twist.

Je merkt dat Quinn daar behoorlijk van op de hoogte is en de nodige research heeft gedaan. Mede daardoor werd dit voor mij onbekend terrein enigszins inzichtelijk.

De plot is verrassend. Niet enkel de moord op Blake die ontrafeld wordt, maar ook de band tussen de weduwen onderling.

Een goed boek — met enkele schoonheidsfoutjes — voor ettelijke uren leesplezier. Drie sterren. De serie draait om twee vrouwelijke politieagenten in New York.

They're marriages are frowned upon in their church and one has secrets from her past but can the truth be discovered and set free. This isn't usually my sort of book but I love a mystery so gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised.

This book does deal with some dark themes like abuse and cults. This is used to drape the silk over the prey when the spider is wrapping it.

There are also red widows and brown widows. Female spiders can live up to three years. Males typically live for one or two months.
